Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Marine Science Week will take place next July, 4th – 8th, 2022, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the “Facultad de Ciencias del Mar” (ULPGC) opening. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Marine Week will summon 7 international Conferences (including the Dino 12 Conference) related to the Marine Science. Even though this international encounter is organised as an onsite event, all Conferences will also give the possibility to join online, giving the Dino 12 participants online access to the recordings of all sessions included on the 7 Conferences. The sessions recordings will be available until August 1st, 2022. Following find the full list of International Conferences included on the event:

REACHING LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA FROM THE AIRPORT

Once you are at Gran Canaria International Airport, look for bus N. 60. The bus stop is located outside the arrival terminal. This line offers many services (each 30 minutes) Airport – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – Airport throughout the day. It has an economic fee and makes two stops in the City: San Telmo Station and Santa Catalina Station. If you are staying on the area of Las Canteras, you should descend at Santa Catalina Station. You can find full information about this service at: www.guaguasglobal.com

You can pick up a taxi at the airport. The price for the services is approx. 35€, depending on the area of the city where you are staying.

The Conference Participants may join Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Old Town guided walking tour. This tour is included on the Conference fee. It will offer a general view of one of the most beautiful districts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Vegueta

Gran Canaria is an Island rich in archaeological sites. One of them (Risco Caído) was declared recently Cultural World Heritage. This tour will visit two impressive sites: Cenobio Valerón and Cueva Pintada, which will give you an approach to the civilization living on the Island before the spanish conquer. This tour will also give you the chance to visit Gáldar Town Centre, a vibrant charming city located on the north of Gran Canaria. The tour will finish in Puerto de Las Nieves, a fishing village where you will have sometime to go for a swim on the clear waters of the old harbour or the natural swimming pools.

Departure in the direction of Guayadeque Valley (South East of Gran Canaria). This valley is known for its outstanding walls, but also for the historical legacy and the large number of endemic plants. We will make a little walk around Montaña de las Tierras, where still some people live in caves. After a snack in Guayadeque we will depart for charming Aguimes, where we will make a short walk along its colourful narrow streets. Departure for Caldera de Tirajana, home to the largest palm oasis in Gran Canaria. Santa Lucía, a little village in the middle of la Caldera, will become our next stop discovering Gran Canaria. After descending Fataga Valley, we will return for Las Palmas after enjoying a day in rural Gran Canaria. The tour includes: english speaking guide, transportation, coffee in Guayadeque and picnic box in Santa Lucía.

We will start the tour visiting the City of Arucas, home to San Juan's Church, an impressive neomodernist building, departing from there, we will make a short walk along the City Old Town, finalizing at the famous Rum Factory: "Arehucas". We will leave Arucas in the direction of Bandama's Crater (1.000 m. diameter/200 m. deep), a clear example of explosive eruption which took place 2.000 years ago. The volcanic ash resulting from its different eruptions has become the perfect soil for growing grapes, so, its surroundings have become the largest winery area of Gran Canaria. We will make a stop in a local winery to try Gran Canaria's wine and famous cheese. Not far from the Caldera de Bandama is located Gran Canaria's Botanical Gardens, where you will have some time to walk and discover this charming place.

WALKING ROUTE IN GRAN CANARIA'S SACRED ROCKS

This is a walking route for people who love nature and hiking. After one hour by bus, we will reach the the centre of the Island (1.942 m. above sea level) to enjoy of a beautiful day walking around one of Gran Canaria's Sacred Rocks: Roque Nublo. During the walk, the views over the west side mountains are spectacular. We will have views also, over Roque Bentayga, and if the weather allows it, we will enjoy of the view of Mount Teide (Tenerife), the highest mountain in Spain.
Level of the route: easy/medium. Route walking distance: 6,6 km. Total ascend: 256 m. Total descend: 256 m. Type of route: Circular. It is required to use hiking shoes and cloths adecuate for practising hiking.

This tour is ideal for those who wish to enjoy a relaxing day by one of Gran Canaria's most famous beaches: Maspalomas. After making a stop at the Maspalomas Dunes Natural Park sightseeing point, we will head for Tony Gallardo Ecological park, near La Charca. From there, you can walk to Maspalomas Beach, where you will have time to enjoy of a day on the beach by yourself. We will pick you up again at 16:00 hours at the explanade Maspalomas Lighthouse explanade.

Dino 12 Conference Dinner will take place on Thursday, 7th July in a historical venue in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: “Pueblo Canario”. This dinner will become an ocassion to meet with other participants attending the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Marine Science Week. Conference Networking Dinner is not included on the registration fee.
